Forno Ventizia is a company founded by pizza lovers dedicated to creating high-quality wood-fired pizza ovens for outdoor cooking. These guys are the Onni of mid-range pizza ovens. They’ve cornered the market by offering high-performance ovens under two grand. But before we crown the Pronto 200, let’s jump into the review and results.

Forno Venetzia Outdoor Oven

After putting the Pronto 200 compact oven through its paces (and a few late-night pizza experiments), it’s time to break it down.

First Impressions and Setup

The Pronto 200 arrives fully assembled—no wrestling with confusing instructions or missing screws.

All you have to do is roll it onto your patio and fire it up.

The built-in thermometer works better than most analog temp readers, which I never understand why manufacturers insist on cutting corners with their bi-dial devices.

Cooking

Man cooking in a wood-fired pizza oven

This oven reached 750°F of consistent temperature, and rising, after about 45 minutes. We fed it a little more fuel after about 20 minutes and reached 780°F . This is a satisfactory  performance when compared to other manual fuel source ovens.

The fire brick cooking surface offers heat retention and distribution, giving us a curst we’d expect; crispy while the cheese browns slightly.

The cooking surface comes in at 24” x 20”, which means it’s not the biggest oven for the money, but good enough for say, two personal-pan sized pizzas.

Compared to other entry level models, like the Gozney Roccbox, or the Onni pizza oven, the Pronto’s heat retention was impressive; it maintained its temperature even after placing pizzas inside. We didn’t notice any significant drop throughout cooking – only a brief temp drop when tossing in two small pies. Rotating the pizzas is a little challenging with the small opening but the even heat distribution meant minimal fidgeting.

What to Consider

Space and size is the first thing that comes to mind when considering this model. If you’re limited on backyard space, the Pronto 200 is compact. However, if you’re looking to run say, two medium pizzas simultaneously you’ll be hard-pressed. Additionally, if you need something mobile, the 200 doesn’t come with a stand. However, the Pronto 500 does but at the time of writing this, you can’t pick it up on Amazon.

Also, think about your cooking style. Managing a wood fire is your only option. Unlike gas ovens that let you dial up or down on a whim, this oven has a little learning curve if you’re not use to cooking with wood. Things to keep in mind when working with a wood fire – make sure you’re dough and toppings are ready to go when your fire is, and invest in a good long-sleeved grill glove you can rely on to manage your fire.

A gas oven can’t compete with the flavor you get from a true wood burning fire, but heat management comes with a learning curve.

It’s worth mentioning the Forno Ventizia’s Torino 500 model is essentially the same as the 200, but it comes with a stand, and has about 25% more cooking surface.

Overall Summary

Hot oven handle warning

Pros:

  1. Instant Gratification: The Pronto 200 is ready to go out of the box.
  1. Exceptional Heat Performance: We were seriously impressed with how quickly and effectively this oven reached its peak temperature.
  1. Appealing Aesthetics: Available in Standard Gray, Copper, or Red — it adds a stylish touch to your outdoor décor.
  1. Solid Construction: The fire brick hearth and insulated dome ensure that it’s built to withstand the elements (and your experimental cooking). It’s worth mentioning that Forno Venetzia is better than most oven manufactures when it comes to customer satisfaction/support.

Cons:

  1. Limited Capacity: The size is perfect for small gatherings, but large crowds will require some serious planning.
  1. Mobility: High performance usually boils down to heavy-duty insulation, this is true for Pronto 200, coming in at over 300lbs.
  1. Learning Curve: While it’s easy to use, mastering optimal cooking times and temperatures for that perfect pizza can take a few attempts.
  1. Exterior Coating: If you opt for the red, the powder coating isn’t enough to stand up to the elements in combination with high heat temps, so plan on buying the cover or go with the gray dome model.
  1. Price Point: While we think it’s worth it for the quality, you might find alternatives at a lower price—though they may not offer the same authentic wood-fired experience.

Final Thoughts

Wood-fired pizza oven with flame and pan

The Pronto 200 typically hovers around the mid-range of outdoor pizza ovens, and while it may make your wallet a smidgen lighter, the value it brings to the table (sorry couldn’t resist) is undeniable. When you compare it to competitors that offer a similar experience, the Pronto 200 stands out because it delivers on performance while offering an authentic wood-fired experience worth of a true artisan pizza. It’s good for anyone looking to enhance their outdoor cooking game and doesn’t mind paying a little more.
